Internet is the physical network of computers over which information can be transmitted. Websites is what you can access from the internet. From the search engine, what is called a "spider" goes through all the pages and looks at their info in them. The spider then brings back that info to the search engine to put in its index. There are many indexes. The largest is google, then MSN, yahoo, and then askJeeves.
Some search tricks are special search charcters, search limits, Boolean operators, truncations, and phrase searching. Phrase searching allows you to find two or more words together. To do this you enclose and close with quotes. Truncations lets you search for many different variations of a single word all at once. Its often done with a question mark or other symbols. Boolean operators allows you to combine search terms in various ways to make your search more accurate. Search limits allow you too narrow your search down to a specific area or type of material.
When you use one source to find similar sources is called Pearle-Culturing. When you find a wesite, it can be useful because it has a list of links to other sites. Once you found your site, its osmetimes hard to find the information you wanted. You have to look for a cite map or site index. You have to look for a search tool on the site or use a search engine to search it.
