In this world theres millions of different cultures, religions, and people. Everone acts different, looks different, and celebrates differently. Some families don't celebrate holidays as big as some other families do. Depending on their culture, certain holidays can be celebrated very big! Take the Italian culture, it focuses on the arts, architecture, music and food. Some Italian holidays are similar to those celebrated throughout many other parts of the world, while others are unique to Italy. A big holiday in Italy and in the United States that is celebrated is Chritstmas. American homes are decorated with holly, mistletoe and branches of trees, most have a Christmas tree hung with electric lights, tinsel, baubles, and strings of popcorn and candy canes. Christmas in Italy starts eight dyas before Christmas and lasts till after the Feast of Epiphany. Children in Italy hang up their stockings on the Feast of the Epiphany, January 6. They celebrate the visit of the Three Kings to Bethlehem. Instead of Santa Claus, children are expecting Befana. She is a witch-like character who rides around on a broom. Every year she leaves gifts for the good children and pieces of charcoal for the bad ones. The traditional Christmas dinner, Cenone, is ade up of spaghetti and anchovies, an assortent of fish, fresh broccoli, tossed salad, fruits, and sweets. No meat is eaten for twenty- four hours before Christmad Eve, but there follows a meal as big as the family can afford. A special New Year Banquet is eaten on the last day of the year, with raisin bread, turckey, chicken, rabbot, and spaghetti. Champagne is the drink of the evening. Every culture is very different but very the same. Everone is proud of heir heritage and celebrate it as big as they can!
